Loulou’s Website Gets A Makeover

with 2 comments

And it’s about time.

Canadian fashion magazine LouLou finally realized that their surprisingly unfriendly website wasn’t reaching their audience as well as it could have. I mean there was only one ancient message board, a couple of contests here and there, and some outdated store profiles. Not exactly putting your best fashionable foot forward.

The new website is a great improvement towards fashion website standards, establishing distinct categories and easy to follow menus. They’ve added some fashion bloggers, something not even Elle Quebec and the rest of Canoe.ca manages to do for their fashion sections, to spice things up and let their readers discover the latest boutiques. They’ve arranged their street fashion pics (uploaded by users) in a nice clickable gallery with profiles of each person’s short fashion blurb.

I never quite noticed the pricing of their shopping picks, but from the vibe Loulou gives off, I thought they were aiming for 18-24 yrs olds as a demographic, but price wise are they’re really aiming for corresponding budgets? $348 for Browns shoes? $840 for a Belstaff jacket? College students aren’t that rich are they? Some of their items like skirts, purses and tops are more decently prices but still hovering around $100.

Overall, though a great improvement, I just never really cared all that much about Loulou magazine to be honest. You’ll be able to find some funky store once in a while by recommendation, but fashion wise they’re a little late on the trends. Plaids, purple, high waisted pants…been there done that, we’re already into Spring y’all.

  1. I agree…they were in need of a makeover! I am liking their virtual model which is a step ahead of any other Canadian Fashion Mag website (I think Marie Claire did it and H&M as well…)
I am also in agreeance with you on Lou Lou not being my cup of tea…I find their styles a bit tacky, price points are all over the place and the writing is sub par.

On the other hand (I am digressing) I am a huge Harpers Bazaar Fan…check out their new sister site with an online magazine: http://www.bazaarelite.com/default.asp

  2. I love Harper’s Bazaar! It’s one of the oldest fashion magazines and we actually analyzed it a little in Graphic Design school a couple of years ago :) It’s just a really classy magazine, well laid out, sure the LV purses are out of my reach ($20,000!!!), and I obviously can’t afford a damn thing they’re advertising, but I enjoy, lol.

Thanks for the link of the sister site, I’m really starting to love analyzing online fashion magazines, lol.
